Nonfiction Editor (Minneapolis, MN )
At Bearport Publishing, we believe that books with good writing and amazing images are irresistible to kids. These two principles guide the development of all our curriculum-aligned books for children in grades PreK-8.
We are currently looking for an experienced, dynamic, and detail-oriented editor to join our team. This person will be responsible for substantive editing, leveling manuscripts, reviewing layouts, writing copy as applicable, and collaborating with the book development team to bring books to life in print and digital formats. This position will report to Bearport’s Managing Editor with whom they will work closely in many aspects of the development process to meet editorial deadlines. Experience and Skills
• Bachelor’s Degree (English or similar major preferable) or equivalent work experience
• Minimum 3 years professional children’s book editing experience, preferably in nonfiction
• Knowledge of GRL, ATOS, and other leveling systems a plus
• Detail and deadline oriented
• Excellent writing, editing, and proofing skills
• Strong organizational, self-management, communication, and interpersonal skills
• Familiarity with education and curriculum requirements desirable
• Must be familiar with Mac OS and Microsoft Office; proficiency with Adobe Acrobat a plus

Intern—Editorial & Digital (Minneapolis, MN)
Summary: Assist Editorial and Digital teams with various projects while gaining hands-on experience in the publishing industry.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Perform research tasks, utilizing local libraries and the internet.
2. Compile book style sheets, photo wish lists, further reading lists.
3. Verify indexes.
4. Assist with writing and/or editing back cover and marketing copy as well as other project documentation.
5. Assist with photo research for our nonfiction children’s publishing program.
6. Test standard and enhanced ebooks, audiobooks, and other digital products on a variety of devices to ensure top quality.
7. Test online platforms and apps on a variety of devices to ensure top quality.
8. Provide QA feedback in an organized and timely manner.
9. Edit ebook metadata and validate ebook files.
10. Assist in creation of preview files and other digital products as necessary.
11. Perform miscellaneous administrative duties.
12. Assist with special projects or other related business duties assigned by immediate supervisor and/or other management as required.
Experience and Necessary Skills:
1. Strong writing and proof reading ability
2. Proficiency with library and Internet research
3. Strong interest in children’s writing and book publishing
4. Great organizational skills and attention to detail
5. Strong computer skills including MS Word and collaboration tools
6. Familiarity with a variety of e-readers, especially iPad and Kindle
7. Knowledge of HTML, CSS, or experience with ebook creation is a plus Education: Two years of undergraduate work or equivalent experience; major in English, Education, Computer Science, or related field.
