Red Line Editorial is looking for an Associate Editor to join our high-energy team of publishing professionals.

RLE creates high-quality books for publishers on a variety of subjects. Most of our books are nonfiction titles created for students in grades K–12, but we also work in a number of other genres.

This is a position that will give the right candidate the opportunity to work on key aspects of our editorial projects. This position requires keen attention to detail and an ability to manage an involved editorial process.

This position will have hands-on involvement in a variety of areas, including project management of assigned manuscripts, with oversight from other editors. Duties will include developmental edits, collaboration with external authors and vendors, photo research and caption writing, some manuscript writing or rewriting, fact-checking, and other editorial duties as assigned. The associate editor will work on books and marketing materials. A library or education background is a plus.

The ideal candidate will possess at minimum:
• A four-year degree in English, journalism, mass communication, or similar. Degrees in other humanities fields, such as history, will also be considered.
• One year of experience working on books and/or educational materials, preferably with experience in developmental editing
• An ability to communicate professionally and effectively with different departments, vendors, and clients
• A tremendous attention to every last detail
• Talent to handle a wide variety of tasks without sacrificing quality
• An ability to effectively handle a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
• An interest and willingness to learn about the full publishing process (both print and digital)
• Familiarity with, or willingness to learn about, curriculum standards as they relate to educational books
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel, Adobe Acrobat, FTPs, and Google Drive
• Proficiency with the Chicago Manual of Style 16th edition and MLA
• Solid grammar skills

Marketing Specialist (Minneapolis)

We create resources for spiritual growth and individual edification, for Christian worship and faith formation, and for academic study and professional development.

Fortress Press is a dynamic team of publishing professionals seeking to grow our trade publishing program. We publish relevant, high-quality books of substance that address life's key questions and shape the conversation among general readers, clergy, students, and scholars.

The Marketing Specialist coordinates and executes digital, event, and print marketing tactics. The Marketing Specialist will report to the Marketing Manager.

The Marketing Specialist will:
• Plan and implement social media marketing tactics. Upload new posts, review content, and keep up to date on the latest trends and sites. Maintain Fortress Press social media sites and set up social media ads as appropriate.
• Implement the email marketing plan and ad hoc emails as directed. Be proficient with 1517 Media email programs and customer database to be able to send out emails to the selected audience as directed.
• Under the direction of the Marketing Manager, solicit endorsements for forthcoming titles and create sell sheets per the publication schedule on a quarterly basis.
• Maintain and update the Fortress Press website including copy changes, pricing changes, and author bio changes. As directed by the Marketing Manager, coordinate with IT and design any new websites or pages as necessary.
• Attend briefing meetings and arrange all marketing briefs for catalogs and other marketing pieces as appropriate. Upload all brief information so that design team has final and accurate information to create marketing material. Organize all draft routes as appropriate and consolidate and communicate all edits to design.
• File all book reviews and post reviews as appropriate to the web and social media sites.
• Create sales reports as appropriate, release new products in Microsoft Dynamics NAV as they become available, and create promotional codes as necessary.

Desired education and experience:
• B.A. in marketing, communication or a relevant field of study.
• 1–3 years of experience in publishing or related media fields.

Desired knowledge, skills, and abilities:
• Ability to think creatively and to apply marketing principles to Fortress Press marketing tactics.
• Knowledge of trade book markets.
• Experience in creating and deploying digital and print marketing tactics.
• Display strong communication skills and the ability to maintain relationships with external and internal stakeholders.
• Ability to work in an environment of change, seeking continuous improvement, and industry leadership.
• Skill in using personal computers and related software, including Outlook, Excel, Word, basic HTML, and contact management software.
• Display strong proofreading and time-management skills.

The Associate Developmental Editor works closely with authors, reviewers, vendors, and staff in the Editorial, Technology, Production, and Marketing departments to develop exceptional instructional materials—including print textbooks, ebooks, print, and digital training and assessment resources for students, and print and digital course management resources for instructors.

Production Editor, full-time (Mendota Heights)

Red Line Editorial is looking for a full-time Production Editor to join our staff of print and online publishing professionals.

RLE creates high-quality books for publishers on a variety of subjects. Most of our books are nonfiction titles created for students in grades K-12, but we also work in a number of other genres. We are seeking a Production Editor to assist in editorial and production tasks for publishers and schools.

Our Production Editor will fill an essential role on our staff. Duties will include:
• Book production using established templates and styles
• Book layout using Adobe InDesign with an InCopy workflow, including text formatting and image placement
• Input changes into InDesign files from marked-up PDFs
• Manipulate and color-correct images and graphics using Photoshop and Illustrator
• Creating charts, maps, or other graphical elements as assigned
• Layout and update catalog pages, sell sheets, and other marketing materials
• Collaborate with other members of our production team on templates and page turns
• Cross-check page turns
• Developmental editing and project management of assigned manuscripts, with oversight from other editors
• Coordinate and communicate with authors, vendors, and clients on assigned projects
• Perform editorial tasks including photo research, proofreading, fact-checking, index creation

The ideal candidate has the following qualifications:
• BA in English, journalism, mass communication, or similar; degrees in other humanities fields, such as history, will also be considered
• Strong computer skills, including Adobe InDesign experience
• Familiarity with the Chicago Manual of Style 17th edition and MLA
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
• Ability to work independently and in a team environment
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite preferred
